The Auditorium is a National Historic Landmark known internationally for its perfect acoustics, innovative architecture, and stunning design. The Auditorium Theatre is the crowning achievement of famed architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan and opened its doors on December 9, 1889. Enjoy lunch at a longtime favorite, family-owned restaurant, The Berghoff. Tour a Violin factory and see craftsmen creating individual instruments by hand. The company is known for making fine violins, violas and cellos. Walk through Salvage One, a warehouse of treasures and architectural salvage featuring vintage furniture and beautiful design accessories all available for purchase.  A nostalgic stroll through the past with Time to shop in a hopping neighborhood / shopping venue.

We will travel 1.5 hours to the peaceful town of St. John, Indiana, to visit the Shrine of Christ’s Passion on Holy Week. Set on 30 beautifully landscaped acres designed to resemble the Holy Land. We will have a guided tour of the Shrine where guests are invited to walk in the footsteps of Jesus along an interactive half‑mile Prayer Trail. Each scene along the trail includes a listening station with reflections narrated by Chicago broadcaster Bill Kurtis. The trail features 40 life‑size bronze sculptures depicting Christ’s life from the Last Supper to the Ascension, designed and cast by renowned Texas artist Mickey Wells.

 

Highlights include the newly opened Moses at Mount Sinai and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Plaza, home to two striking bronze sculptures depicting Saint Juan Diego’s 1531 vision. The Plaza also features a serene chapel, offering a peaceful space for prayer and reflection.

 

During free time, guests may also visit the Our Lady of Guadalupe Gift Shoppe or explore the Family Plaza, which showcases inspiring sculptures such as St. Joseph with Jesus in the Workshop and more. Guests will also see the impressive Our Lady of the New Millennium statue, a 33‑foot‑tall stainless‑steel monument. Time to shop in their 6,000‑square‑foot gift shop with a wide selection of unique religious gifts, books, and artwork.

A reserved club car is available for guests unable to walk the one‑mile round trip Prayer Trail. This option includes a guided tour as well and is available for an additional $10 per person for the club car with guide (used for the Prayer Trail only).

 

A lovely lunch at Teibel’s is included, followed by a guided 45‑minute tour of St. John the Evangelist Church, located behind the Shrine and reached by motorcoach. If time permits, we will enjoy a surprise stop on the way home.
