“Ethnic Basket - Churches, National Public Housing Museum & More” An amazing Day Tour!

Be one of the first to visit the newly opened National Public Housing Museum. This Museum preserves histories of the residents of public housing and transports visitors into the lived experiences of residents of the Jane Addams Homes between 1938 and 1975, much like the Tenement Museum in New York City. Visit the Historic Apartments Exhibit to see how two families actually lived in public housing.
Notre Dame de Chicago is a tribute to the French explorers and pioneers, like Marquette and Beaubien, who first settled in Chicago. It is also one of the few French monuments in the city. The architecture shows French influence in its square domes and Greek cross layout.
Visit Scafuris, a small, family-owned bakery on Taylor Street in their original and only location. The bakery closed in 2008, but the family was able to re-open it in 2013. Enjoy their delicious cookies, pastries and breads.
Enjoy a Greek lunch in Chicago’s Greektown. Favorite dishes will be served to please everyone’s palate.
St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church was built in 1910 as a synagogue. There are remnants of that time in the church, including a balcony and nameplates. In 1927, the Jewish community moved on and the building was bought by the Greek Orthodox community who still continue to worship there. The church features the beautiful iconography of the Eastern rite.

Approx Return: Libertyville 5:30 p.m. Wauconda 6:15 p.m.
